Lagos Police Arrest 32 Suspects, Recover 43 Vehicles, Firearms as CP Tijani Fatai Briefs Journalists By Princess Aladegoroye September 28th,2026 The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of 32 suspects and the recovery of 43 vehicles, firearms, ammunition, cash and other exhibits in various operations carried out across the state in September 2026. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, disclosed this on Monday, September 28, 2026, during a media briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja, where he presented an overview of the Command’s operational activities and security achievements for the month. According to the Commissioner, the operations were targeted at suspected armed robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms, stealing, vandalism and other violent crimes. CP Fatai said the Command remained committed to protecting lives and property through proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, strategic crime prevention and rapid response to emerging security threats. Police Recover Arms, Cash and Other Exhibits The Commissioner disclosed that, among the items recovered during the operations, were five pump-action guns, five locally made pistols, 20 live ammunition/cartridges, 15 expended ammunition, two cutlasses and assorted suspected criminal charms.

Other recovered exhibits included a television set, vehicle radiator, car jack, a bag containing vehicle spare parts and tools, vandalised electrical wires, two vehicle keys and ₦2.5 million in cash. The Command also reported the recovery of 43 vehicles during the period under review. 15-Year-Old Allegedly Arrested With Firearms Hidden in Bread One of the cases highlighted at the briefing involved the arrest of a 15-year-old boy identified as Taiye Majekodunmi in the Oshodi area. According to the Commissioner, the teenager was allegedly intercepted at Capa, Oshodi, while transporting firearms and ammunition concealed inside a loaf of bread. Police said the boy was allegedly conveying the weapons to another person on the instruction of an individual identified as Samuel. The arrest formed part of the Command’s investigations into suspected illegal firearms movement and criminal activities in the state. Sergeant Johnson Okediji Dies During Stop-and-Search Operation The briefing was also marked by the tragic death of a police sergeant, Johnson Okediji, during a stop-and-search operation in Egbeda. CP Fatai said that on September 26, 2026, at about 2:40 p.m., officers conducting stop-and-search duties along Olugbede Street, Egbeda, flagged down a Lexus ES 350 with registration number FKJ 223 KX, allegedly driven by 21-year-old Olumide Olusola. According to the police account, the driver initially stopped but allegedly accelerated as Sergeant Okediji approached the driver’s side of the vehicle. The Commissioner said the officer was knocked down and dragged underneath the vehicle for several metres despite attempts by police officers and passers-by to stop it. The driver was subsequently pursued and arrested, according to the police. Sergeant Okediji reportedly sustained multiple fractures and serious head injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His remains have been deposited at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while the vehicle was recovered to the police station. More Than 41 Vehicles Impounded The Commissioner further disclosed that the Command had intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with covered number plates and those without proper registration. He said an early-morning enforcement operation conducted on Monday, September 28, resulted in the impoundment of more than 41 vehicles over covered number plates and registration-related violations. The Commissioner stated that further checks and enforcement activities were ongoing. Police Target Cultism and Other Violent Crimes The Command also reported operations against suspected cult groups and violent crime networks in different parts of Lagos. Police said intelligence-led operations resulted in arrests and the recovery of weapons in areas including Badagry, Ikorodu, Mushin and other parts of the state. In Badagry, police reported the arrest of suspected members of the Eiye confraternity and the recovery of a locally made firearm, vehicle keys and suspected charms. The Command also reported arrests linked to alleged robbery and theft incidents, with investigations continuing into the various cases. CP Fatai Calls for Public Cooperation Speaking on the Command’s activities, CP Tijani Fatai assured Lagos residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led strategies and proactive operations to address security threats across the state. He also said the Command would protect police personnel carrying out their lawful duties while holding accountable any officer whose conduct falls below expected professional standards. The Commissioner commended police officers and other operatives for their dedication and thanked members of the public for providing information that assisted security operations. He stressed that security is a shared responsibility, urging Lagos residents to continue cooperating with the police and providing credible information that could help prevent crime and protect lives and property.
