LAGOS NUJ CORRESPONDENTS’ CHAPEL GAINS MOMENTUM AS PRESS WEEK DRAWS NEAR

As preparations gather pace for the 2026 Press Week of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Correspondents’ Chapel, the annual event has received a significant boost following assurances of support from the National Deputy President of the union, Dr. Bimbo Oyetunde.

The commitment was made during an interactive meeting between the leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel and Dr. Oyetunde at her office in Radio Nigeria, Lagos, on June 2, 2026. The engagement formed part of the Chapel’s strategic consultations ahead of its highly anticipated Press Week scheduled for June 27.

During the visit, the Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Comrade Abraham Akpabio, presented the programme outline for the celebration and highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in ensuring the success of the event. He noted that the annual gathering remains a vital platform for promoting professional development, strengthening industry relationships, and celebrating excellence within the journalism profession.

Responding, Dr. Oyetunde expressed confidence in the Chapel’s vision and pledged her support towards the success of the programme. Despite her demanding schedule, she assured the delegation of her participation and encouragement, emphasizing the need for journalists to continue building platforms that advance the profession.

She further commended the Correspondents’ Chapel for its consistency in organizing initiatives that foster media growth, knowledge sharing, and professional networking among practitioners.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the veteran broadcaster to reflect on her career journey in journalism. Drawing from her experiences, including her tenure as General Manager of Bronze FM in Benin City, Edo State, she shared valuable insights into the evolving landscape of broadcast journalism, the challenges confronting media professionals, and the opportunities available for those committed to excellence.

Dr. Oyetunde urged journalists across the country to remain steadfast in upholding the ethics of the profession, embrace continuous learning, and maintain the highest standards of credibility and responsibility in their reportage.

Also present at the meeting was the Chairman of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) Chapel, Comrade Wahab Akinlade, who joined in discussions on issues relating to media development and professional growth.

Members of the Correspondents’ Chapel delegation included Head of Media Relations Princess Aladegoroye, Ranti Fanayajo, and Secretary Steve Oma-Ofozor. They expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded them and described the engagement as insightful, encouraging, and timely as the Chapel intensifies preparations for its forthcoming Press Week.

The June 27 event is expected to bring together journalists, media executives, public affairs stakeholders, and communication professionals in a celebration of journalism’s enduring role in nation-building and democratic development.
