FUMAN CLARIFIES CONSTITUTIONAL POSITION ON PRESIDENT’S TENURE, AFFIRMS LEGITIMACY OF NATIONAL CONVENTION
The Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN) has clarified issues surrounding the tenure of its National President following the successful conduct of its National Convention held on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at Sulerious Lakeside Hotel, New Road, Ahoyaya, Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The association said the clarification became necessary following recent comments circulating in some quarters regarding the tenure of the National President and other elected officers of the association.
FUMAN noted that all activities surrounding the National Convention and the emergence of new executives were conducted in accordance with the provisions of the association’s constitution and established democratic procedures.
The association further explained that the constitution provides for the conduct of National Convention and election of officers to pilot the affairs of the association, while the National Executive Council is dissolved at every convention to allow for fresh elections.
FUMAN added that the constitution does not prescribe any term limit for National, State and Zonal Executives, including the office of the President, Governors and Chairmen thereby making all duly elected officers constitutionally recognized upon the mandate of members.
The association also clarified that the recent convention was conducted transparently and in line with constitutional provisions, resulting in the emergence of a blend of experienced and newly elected officers.
According to the association, six of the newly elected officers are serving third terms, five are serving second terms, while two officers are serving their first terms respectively, reflecting the collective confidence reposed in them by members of the association nationwide.
FUMAN reaffirmed that the association remains guided strictly by its constitution, due process, and the collective will of members nationwide.
FUMAN therefore urged members of the public, stakeholders in the entertainment industry, and members of the association to disregard reports suggesting any constitutional breach regarding the tenure of its National Executives.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to unity, peace, professionalism, and the continued promotion and preservation of Fuji music across Nigeria and beyond.
The newly elected National Officers are:
1. Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Agboola — President (Lagos State)
