GUILD OF MEDICAL DIRECTORS LAGOS ,PANEL DISCUSSION ON THE ROLE OF MEDICAL ENTREPRENEURS IN PREVENTING MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE AND ENFORCING PATIENTS' RIGHTS IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE CODE OF MEDICAL ETHICS IN NIGERIA

 

It was a great discussion by medical professionals on the topic: Entrepreneurs in medical practice on preventing medical negligence and enforcing patient's rights in compliance with the code of Medical Ethics in Nigeria at the venue ,Eye Foundation Hospital , Ikeja, Lagos on Wednesday 25th, February,2026.

The moderator ,Dr. Festus Oshoba ,who is the former Registrar Medical and Dental council of Nigeria did a great job at moderating the panel on the topic of discuss.

Dr. Enejo Abdul, Deputy Registrar Medical and Dental council of Nigeria spoke on medical Entrepreneurs and how to remain discipline adding human face to care in all medical facilities. He spoke on ethics and conduct of medical doctors which should be strictly adhere to and saving lives should be paramount. He talked about facilities being registered to be used for what is meant for and professionals should handle matters better in all situation. He said doctors should make referers as prompt as possible, and close to their facilities. He also spoke on creating relationships with professionals within the environment where their facilities are located.

Dr. Abiola Idowu, permanent secretary, Health facility monitoring and Accreditation Agency, spoke of the need for Medical Entrepreneurs to keep their facilities clean and be present at all times.


She retirate that consultant should adhere to standard and ensure quality service delivery to all patients in their care 


Prof.John Obafunwa, forensic pathologist, Director general, Nigeria Institute of  Medical Research, spoke on the the need for research on medical cases, samples from patients and uthopsy in any matter being handled by all professionals. He spoke on simple diagnosis and correct prescription for patients in all facilities. He also spoke on timing for precise information and results.


Professor Cheluchi Onyemelukwe, Managing partner, Health, Ethics and Law Consulting, spoke on the legal aspects of health care on Medical Entrepreneurs. She said people are getting aware of their rights and medical Entrepreneurs should take their clients seriously immediately they are in their facilities to avoid litigation. She said saving lives and upholding the Ethics of medical profession should be paramount and whatever it's done in any facility there should be proper documentation and conscernt of  patients to avoid story that touch the heart. 


Dr. Festus Oshoba did a good summary of all the speakers notes at the end of the discussion and have questions answered by professionals present. It was a great time with the discussants and all medical Entrepreneurs present at the venue.
