Adewale Omoniyi, the governorship aspirant of the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP),flag off his campaign with his focus on a data -driven government. The statistician who hails from Yewa in Ogun State,believed the state can solve a lot more problems using data-gathering information.He said,the problem in Ogun State is that the State is not built on solid foundation. There is a need to rebuild Ogun State. To build a system that works. A system that will automatically eradicate corruption and improve our security. A system that will provide jobs to our youths irrespective of their background or family affiliation, a system that will attract investors and generate revenue for the state. What most people see as problems are not the real problems,hence it has been very difficult for past government to find any reasonable solutions to them.
Ogun State has an estimated population of about 7.2million and spread over a landmass of
about 17,000 km square and a population density of 220 per km square. There is no way anyone
can bring about a real positive change without building a good data base for the state. A
database that will contain basic information about every citizen in the state. There are two
categories of people in the state now, those that are close to people in government and enjoying
what they called the dividends of democracy, this category of people is very few and the second
category the massive numbers that are suffering and dying on daily basis.
The main objective of my government is to touch the lives of every citizen and residents of Ogun
State. We need to identify our problem from the source so that we can proffer the right solutions.
You can’t identify the people’s needs without knowing them. You can only know the people by
having their data. This our government intends to do.
We realise the value of data and the use of modern day technology and how it can revolutionise
decision making. This is the main reason why we will work towards a data-driven governance not
only to inform or impact our policy making but will also help in proper planning and bring about
transparency and accountability in government. Data-driven governance will also bring about an
enabling atmosphere for investor to come in to the state.This will promote accountability and transparency in every strata and develop the state positively.
