REMO NORTH CONSTITUENCY: THE FORGOTTEN RELIC OF 1937 OBAFEMI AWOLOWO CREATION: GETTING ITS VOICE BACK BY EMBRACING ANDVOTING FOR "THE KEY TO JOY", PEOPLES REDEMPTION PARTY* The only local government council area which is still retaining the word "Remo" identified with the division created in response to agitations by the people to be excised from the old Ijebu province in 1937 lies to the north of that historical division. While the south and central have become Sagamu and Ikenne local government areas respectively, the northern part, Remo North Local Government Area still sustain the creational name, "Remo" attached to its geographical coordinate to appellate and named. Though softly spoken, the voice of Om'oba Adesanya Omoniyi Adekoya, the Peoples Redemption Party candidate for Remo North State Constituency resonates like brass gong from the top of the Oke Ibipe Hill, "I will raise the voice of Remo North, attract development and empower the people". it resolutely said. The candidate of Peoples Redemption Party in the forthcoming 2023 general election in Remo North State constituency, Omo'ba Adesanya Omoniyi Adekoya who was also elected and currently serves as the Assistant National Director Reseach, Planning and Documentations of the PRP, has promised to provide quality representation for the Remo North Constituency people if elected into Ogun state House of Assembly in the coming general elections. He noted that the constituency has not been getting its rightful dues in the scheme of things in Ogun State. This has caused many setbacks and such trend must stop and should be reversed. "The way things are in Remo North are unacceptable". "You can go around and see how bad our infrastructure are, and, there is no real drive to put things in good order". He said further that "power supply is almost absolutely non-existent to match the rotational supply in some other places. "We go for weeks without power supply and people mostly rely more on their generators than the grid." "You can imagine what this meant to businesses. Welders, barbers, food cold rooms, saw mills. You can go on and on. These businesses are suffering under the yolk of very high operational cost of running the businesses. Households also suffer same. Something must be done about this and that must be done now", Adekoya determinedly lamented. He complained further about the poor state of township roads within the constituency which has been inhibiting the flow of commerce. "It is pathetic to see such situations where our roads are eyesores and hazardous danger zones even for pedestrians not to talk of transporters who avoid our township roads because of the untoward damages and cost of maintenence to their vehicles thus causing hardship and inconvenience to the people. We are not able to effectively bring our farm produce for consumption in the towns. Trade is grossly hampered and impeded. With all these, nobody seems to care or are doing anything about it year in year out as if we offended government". "I shall raise the voice of the people of the constituency in the state to get attention and more government presence. I shall attract massive development through legislation. Nobody is talking about the negative impact or even the positive influence the Cargo Airport would bear on Remo North Constituency. Nobody is talking about the implication of the light rail plans of the State on Remo North Constituency." Om'oba Adekoya continued "We have shied away from the truth for too long. It's time to change the narrative for good and that is my mission when I get to the House of Assembly being a representative of the redemption of the people as a candidate of the 'Peoples Redemption Party" the political party with the 'Key' which opens the doors of joy. 'Kokoro Ayo' in our language in Remo NorthConstituency", he stressed. Adekoya, who is passionate about the welfare of his people, believes that getting the state government to capture Remo North in its focus and tap the massive potentials and possibilities to the advantage of the citizens. This he said is as much the interest of the government too. This shall open the windows of opportunities for the people. He noted that there will be increased employment and even the state government will earn more income from taxes by enhancing the capacities of the people in Remo North constituency. According to Adekoya, it is time to connect the people of Remo North with the mainstream such that policies and programs of the state government shall involve them in an inclusive manner. Our people must begin to participate and benefit from the policies and programs of the state government" he stressed. He stated further that "we must ensure that the standard of living of our people improves by bringing good governance to their doorsteps". He then urged the people of Remo North, Ogun state and Nigerians in general to get their permanent voter's cards and vote en masse for him and at large, the Peoples Redemption Party at all levels in the forthcoming general elections before and in 2023.
